Aquaculture

Aquaculture, alternatively spelled aquiculture, or aquafarming, is the deliberate cultivation of aquatic life forms, including fish, crustaceans, mollusks, algae, and valuable organisms like aquatic plants. It encompasses the controlled or semi-natural raising of freshwater, brackish water, and saltwater populations. This stands in contrast to commercial fishing, which involves capturing wild fish.

Mariculture, commonly referred to as marine farming, specifically pertains to aquaculture conducted in seawater environments and lagoons, distinct from freshwater-aquaculture. Pisciculture, a subtype of it, focuses on fish farming for the production of fish-related products as food.

It can also be refereed to the breeding, nurturing, and harvesting of fish and other aquatic flora, often referred to as water farming. It serves as an environmentally friendly source of food and commercial products, contributing to the enhancement of healthier ecosystems and the restoration of endangered aquatic species populations.
