Aquamax Ltd, a seafood processing and export company based in Datinkhali of Burigoalini union in Shyamnagar, Satkhira, has received the National Fisheries Medal (Gold) in recognition of its contribution to Bangladesh’s fisheries sector and its success in earning foreign currency through seafood exports.
The company received the prestigious award in the “crab, eel and oyster” category at the inaugural ceremony of National Fisheries Week-2026, held on August 16 at the George Institution Mini Stadium in Katiadi, Kishoreganj.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman formally inaugurated the week, which is being observed across the country from August 16 to 30 under the theme “A self-sufficient country through silver fish, Bangladesh first.” At the ceremony, 14 individuals and organisations were presented with the National Fisheries Medal (Gold) in 13 categories for their outstanding contributions to fisheries production, research, technological innovation, extension services, administrative efficiency and entrepreneurship development.

Aquamax Ltd Managing Director Shahidul Islam received the award on behalf of the company. Along with the gold medal, the company was also presented with a Tk 50,000 cheque as a token of appreciation for its contribution to the sector.
The recognition comes after Aquamax exported around 263.20 metric tonnes of soft-shell crab in 2025 to destinations in different parts of the world, strengthening the country’s position in the international seafood market and contributing to foreign exchange earnings.
Established in 2014, Aquamax has built its business around the production, processing and export of seafood, with a particular focus on soft-shell crab. Over the years, the company has continued to expand its farming, processing and export operations while creating employment opportunities in the coastal region.
The company currently employs 158 people across its farm and factory operations in Satkhira.
Aquamax has also expanded its business footprint beyond Bangladesh and is currently operating in the Philippines, reflecting its growing ambition to establish itself as an international seafood enterprise.
The company’s journey in the seafood business also carries a family legacy. Shahidul Islam’s father, late Wazed Ali Biswas, was a veteran seafood businessman who was also recognised with a national award for his contribution to Bangladesh’s shrimp export industry during his time.
The latest National Fisheries Medal is therefore being viewed by the company not only as recognition of its recent export performance but also as an acknowledgement of its broader contribution to Bangladesh’s fisheries and seafood economy.
For Aquamax Ltd, the award marks another milestone in a journey that began in 2014 and has increasingly connected the fisheries-dependent communities of coastal Satkhira with international seafood markets.
