BFDC launches ‘Ready to Cook Fish’ program: can it be a game changer for Dhaka dwellers

Bangladesh’s Fisheries and Livestock Minister Abdur Rahman has inaugurated the ‘BFDC Ready to Cook Fish’ marketing program in Dhaka. This initiative, organized by the Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation (BFDC), introduces 40 species of ready-to-cook fish, available at three permanent locations.

The designated spots include the BFDC building fisheries in Karwan Bazar, the fish landing center in Jatrabari, and the Chittagong fisheries port. Additionally, ‘BFDC Ready to Cook Fish’ will be accessible through frozen mobile vans stationed at 16 locations across Dhaka city, offering convenience to consumers. Marketing efforts will also extend to online platforms and e-commerce channels, along with the appointment of area-based dealers.

During the inauguration ceremony, Minister Abdur Rahman emphasized the significant benefits of the Ready to Cook Fish program, particularly for women, especially those in the workforce. He highlighted the government’s efforts to empower women across various sectors and expressed optimism about the program’s potential to enhance their daily lives.

Minister Rahman credited Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visionary directives for the preparation, marketing, and expansion of the ready-to-cook fish segment, aimed at easing the cooking process for working women. He underscored BFDC’s commitment to ensuring high-quality fish products, addressing a key challenge in maintaining taste and nutritional value. Variety of fishes will be provided in ready to cook fish package, such as all common carps, Boal, Chital, Ilish, Rupchanda, Shrimps, Pangasius etc in different weight segments.

Emphasizing the importance of food quality and taste, Minister Rahman urged stakeholders to focus on enhancing the export and processing of fish products. Despite being the third-largest fish producer globally, Bangladesh lags in fish export and processing, presenting an opportunity for the ready-to-cook fish market to bridge this gap.

The minister also called for research into foreign market preferences for ready-to-cook fish, stressing the importance of aligning product offerings with international demand. With BFDC’s ‘Ready to Cook Fish’ program, Dhaka consumers can look forward to convenient access to high-quality, nutritious fish products, ushering in a new era of culinary convenience.
