Iran’s shrimp export has surged, reaching $31.3 million in just five months, according to the latest data from the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA). The increase reflects a broader trend in Iran’s fishery sector, which saw a 24% growth in export value compared to the same period last year.

During the first five months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20-August 21), the country exported 68,000 tons of fishery products, totaling $138 million. This represents a 32% year-on-year increase in terms of export volume.

The expansion isn’t limited to shrimp. Iran’s overall fishery exports have shown substantial growth, with a notable 40% rise in export weight during the first quarter of the year compared to the previous year. In total, 73,369 tons of fishery products worth $121.4 million were exported in the first quarter alone.

IRICA also reported that Iran’s fishery exports exceeded $310 million in the last Iranian fiscal year, marking a 3% increase from the previous year. Shrimp exports played a significant role, contributing $98.5 million, or 32%, of the total export value. Despite a slight dip in shrimp export value, with a 26% decline from the previous year, Iran continues to dominate regional markets, with Russia, the UAE, and China as major destinations.

The success of Iran’s aquaculture industry has positioned the country as a regional leader, with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) recognizing Iran’s pivotal role. The country’s aquaculture advancements, particularly in caged fish farming, are setting benchmarks for other nations in the region.

In light of these developments, Iran is doubling down on its fishery sector. New ventures, including the creation of a value chain for caged fish farming in the Caspian Sea region, are underway. These initiatives aim to enhance production capabilities, focusing on technological upgrades, improved farm management systems, and the development of value-added products from fish waste.

One notable innovation is the introduction of nanobubble generators by a knowledge-based Iranian company. These machines, which enhance oxygen and gas dissolution in water, are expected to boost fish farm productivity and improve the quality of farmed fish. The technology is also energy-efficient, reducing electricity consumption by up to 70%.

With continued investment and innovation, Iran’s fisheries sector is poised for even greater growth, making a mark on global markets and solidifying its role as a model for aquaculture development.

Shrimp exports of Iran has witnessed a substantial 22% increase in the first half of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-September 22), marking significant growth compared to the corresponding period in the previous year, as reported by Ali-Akbar Khodaei, the secretary of the Aquatics Production and Trade Union of Iran. The export figures reveal a notable achievement, with 13,500 tons of shrimps valued at $60 million making their way to international markets during this six-month timeframe.

Key export destinations for Iranian shrimps during this period included Russia, the United Arab Emirates, China, Lebanon, Egypt, Spain, France, Britain, and neighboring countries, underlining the expanding global reach of Iran’s aquaculture industry.

The positive trajectory of Iran’s aquaculture sector extends beyond shrimp exports, with the country making significant strides in global fishery product production. The head of the Iran Fisheries Organization (IFO), Hossein Hosseini, disclosed that the nation exported fishery products amounting to US $600 million in the previous Iranian calendar year 1401, showcasing the industry’s robust performance. With a positive balance of US $520 million, there is a considerable potential for Iran in shrimp exports up to US $2 billion.

Iran’s achievements in aquaculture have not gone unnoticed on the international stage. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) recognizes Iran’s responsible and central role in the regional fishing and aquaculture sector, positioning the country as a model for neighboring nations. The growth and development of Iran’s aquaculture industry have reached a stage where it serves as an exemplary model globally.

Despite facing sanctions, Iran’s fishery industry continues to thrive, and the entry of young specialists and knowledge-based experts into various sectors of the field has played a pivotal role in rendering the sanctions ineffective. The collaboration between executive bodies like the IFO and the contributions of research and knowledge-based activities underscore Iran’s resilience and success in the face of challenges, making it a force to be reckoned with in the global fishery market.

During this period, more than 83,000 tons of fisheries and aquaculture products were exported, generating $140 million in revenue and witnessing a 32% surge in weight.

Iran’s aquaculture industry has been making impressive strides and is globally recognized for its achievements in producing various fishery products. The head of the Iran Fisheries Organization (IFO), Hossein Hosseini, revealed that in the previous Iranian calendar year 1401, the country successfully exported fishery products worth $600 million, boasting a positive trade balance of $520 million. Furthermore, he highlighted the potential for the country’s fishery industry to expand its exports to reach up to $2 billion.

Iran’s aquaculture sector has reached a level of development that has garnered international attention, positioning the country as a role model for the region and the world.
IRNA (Tehran) – According to Javad Sadati nejad, minister of agriculture in Iran, seafood export have increased by 68% in the first seven months of the Iranian calendar year (March 21 to October 22).

Regarding the significance of seafood export of Iran, Javed Sadati Nejad emphasized that during the first seven months of the Iranian calendar year, seafood exports increased by 68%. (March 21 to October 22).

He emphasized that compared to last year, aquatic product exports had increased in value and weight by 68% and 28%, respectively.

He emphasized the necessity of implementing fresh approaches to advance the industry and strengthen the value chain of aquatic products. He promised that the Agriculture Ministry would keep assisting fish farms to boost exports.

The minister claims that his department is making the necessary preparations to keep developing national fishing parks.

“In addition to the manufacturing of high-quality and reasonably priced aquatic products, it is vital to encourage the consumption of fish proteins,” Sadati Nejad added, emphasizing the need to develop the fisheries sector. He was referring to the unique capabilities of Iran’s marine environment, including beaches and rivers.

Iran’s fishery goods are of excellent quality and easily sold in export markets worldwide. Recently, new export destinations like China, South Korea, and countries in the Eurasian Union have welcomed these items.

On the sidelines of the 6th International Fisheries Industry Exhibition in late November, Javed Sadati Nejad announced the opening of the nation’s first fishery industries park (IFEX 2022).

The first fishery park in the nation, which is mostly dedicated to shrimp cultivation, will reportedly produce 1,000 tons of shrimp annually.

“The Ministry of Agriculture and Iran Fisheries Organization (IFO) support investors in the field of fisheries and seafood production, which then in addition to improving the economy, increasing exports and foreign revenues, also brings job creation,” said Sadati-Nejad about his ministry’s support for fishery-related businesses.

The minister also disclosed an increase in the export of seafood and aquatic items this year, including caviar.
