Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the fish deaths, sparking concerns that the number could rise further by Saturday. DSCC Public Relations Officer Md Abu Nasher confirmed that water and fish samples have been collected from Dhanmondi lake for analysis to uncover the underlying reasons for this incident.

In response to the situation, the DSCC administrator visited the Dhanmondi and directed officials to promptly remove the dead fish and carry out a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

Speculation surrounds the cause of the fish deaths, with one DSCC official suggesting the possibility of intentional poisoning by someone with vested interests. It is suspected that a former leaseholder of the lake may have sabotaged the current leaseholder’s operations. Another theory involves the illegal dumping of chemicals into the lake, potentially by individuals seeking to dispose of such substances amid ongoing crackdowns across the country.

The DSCC continues to investigate the incident to ensure the protection of the lake’s ecosystem and prevent future occurrences.
